Key Features

MacSoft intuitively combined great graphics and great playability to create Age of Empires III! There are many things that you can do in this game, so I'm only going over a few of them.

 • Explore uncharted territories to stake your claim in the New World

 • Command powerful rifled infantry and a naval fleet

 • Gain valuable experience to level-up your Home City and strengthen your economy, technology, and military

 • Lead one of eight civilizations: Spanish, French, British, Dutch, Russian, German, Portuguese or Ottoman

 • Fully 3D graphics, destructible environments and dynamic physics

Playability

This game is great for ages 10 and up. The game is based on warfare, but it also includes more peaceful ventures like growing your economy. On the war side, Age of Empires gives you an incredible amount of control over your side of the battlefield. You can control a wide variety of troops of infantry, cavalry, artillery, Native American warriors that are on your side, mercenaries and even naval vessels! You also can assign different actions to your army, like Volley, Charge, or Bombard. And, if you can't choose, you can have the game automatically choose the best and most tactical of the formations for you! On the peaceful side, you can build your economy so you become a thriving empire! Your Home City regularly sends you supplies and military reinforcements. As you get better, your Home City gets stronger, allowing you to do a wider variety of things like unlocking new types of soldiers and buildings, expanding your 'tech tree', or even customizing your cities! Even your citizens have a voice.  You can watch them go about their daily lives, and get their opinion on how your doing or advice to plot your next move.

Pros

 • Great graphics

 • Plays smoothly

 • Easy to play

 • Rich dialog

 • Did I mention the graphics...

Cons

 • Too short - could use more hours of gameplay

 • Other than that - none!

Conclusion

Age of Empires III is an amazing addition to your video game collection. Its awesome graphics combined with the intuitive gameplay make for the best combination. It is a great strategy game that you can't skip!

Review: SPORE

This is a sneak peak on my newest review on SPORE: The Video game!

Intro

As my first review, I'll be giving you a premiere review on SPORE, the popular evolution-based video game for the Mac. I'll be going over the high points and the low points, as well as a detailed description on the creature creator, where you make the creatures you control! Read on to find out more!

Overview

With SPORE, there are five evolutionary phases: Cell, Creature, Tribe, Civilization, and Space. In each different phase has many different challenges and goals. With each accomplishment, your creature gets one step up the evolutionary tree! You may choose to start in Cell and nurture one species from its humble aquatic origins to its evolution as a sentient species. Or , decide to start building tribes or civilizations on multiple planets right away! The best part about SPORE is that what you do in your universe is completely up to you, making it the ideal environment to control every part of your universe, and create different things like vehicles, buildings, creatures, and, wait for it, starships!

Key Features

Electronic Arts knowledgeably added many features to enhance the playability of this game.  These are some of the key features that really add to the game:

 • Wield godlike powers and get an awesome and different view of life, and at the same time, use what creativity you have!

 • Evolve your creature through the five stages I mentioned before. You can even have multiple generations!

 • You can explore your world, or

planet, to ensure the survival and safety of your species. With the space phase, you can explore other planets and beyond you aren't attacked by aliens!

 • Great internet features that let you share and brag about your creations worldwide!

These great features outcompete many other games like it! The godlike powers really impressed me. After all, I like control!

Playability

This game is great for all ages. It is rated for everyone ages 10 or older because of animated blood, comic mischief, and fantasy violence by the ESRB. Don't worry, its not animated gore-mania. Besides, I think its fine for younger children to view, but, as always, it is the parent's decision, not mine. The graphics are great and realistic (for fictional creatures). The creature creator is great. It even makes a 'popping' sound every time you remove and move a leg or arm. (Or horn, mandible, ear, leafy-thing, antler, and, yes, a toe.) I could buy it just for its look!

Pros

 • Great Graphics

 • Great sound effects

 • Interactive gameplay

 • Cool creature creator

 • Lots of play options

 • And many more!

Cons

 • Sometimes freezes briefly

 • Some early stages are boring

 • Inventory management is hard

 • Space ship improvements

 • Should be able to rename planets and other things (You are in control, right?)

Conclusion

SPORE is a great game and worth the money. The graphics, sound, and overall gameplay all live up to their expectations. There are many hours of fun included with SPORE. This is a game you can't ignore!
